Steel and aluminum behave differently, and those differences can matter depending on the size and type of opening.

Steel
Steel is a natural choice when the profile itself is an important part of the design.
Its strength allows for slim framing and detailed configurations, making it well suited to:

Aluminum
Aluminum can be the better choice when you want a lightweight frame, large areas of glass, or a contemporary sliding system.

What About Sightlines?
This is where the choice has become more nuanced.
Traditional aluminum systems can have wider profiles than comparable steel systems, but not all aluminum systems are the same.
Our Lineaporta Linear sliding system, for example, has an 18 mm visible face width.
So if your priority is an exceptionally slim sliding opening, aluminum may actually be the better fit.
For steel, the profile, configuration, opening size, and glazing all affect the final sightlines.
Compare the actual systems and dimensions—not just the material.
Thermal Performance
Both steel and aluminum can be used in thermally broken systems.
What matters is the complete assembly: profile, thermal break, glass, dimensions, configuration, and ultimately the tested performance of the finished unit.
