A fixed — or picture — window is a non-operable window. It doesn't open, which removes the hardware, hinges, and extra framing an operable window needs. The result is a larger area of uninterrupted glass with the slimmest possible steel sightline, made purely to bring in light and frame a view.
Yes — fixed glazing is where steel goes largest. Because there's no operating mechanism to support, a single fixed panel can span far further than an operable one. Maximum size depends on the profile, glass make-up, and structural header, and we engineer each panel to your specific opening and wind load.
Generally, yes. With no operable seam to seal, a fixed window has fewer paths for air infiltration than an operable one. Paired with a thermally broken profile such as W50-TB or Secco OS2 75 and a Low-E, double-glazed make-up, fixed steel performs strongly for its slimness.
Absolutely — and it's one of the most common configurations. Large fixed panels carry the view while smaller casement or awning units, placed where you need airflow, provide ventilation. Because they share the same profile, the whole assembly reads as one continuous steel window wall.
Clear, low-iron, Low-E, laminated, tempered, reeded, frosted, and tinted, in single- or double-glazed make-ups. We specify the glass to the job — low-iron for the truest view, Low-E for performance, laminated or tempered for safety and acoustics, and reeded or frosted where privacy matters.
Yes. Fixed panels are the backbone of most steel window walls and curtain-wall-style assemblies, mulled together vertically and horizontally to glaze an entire elevation. Operable units and doors drop into the same grid wherever access or ventilation is required.
They are. For exterior and conditioned spaces we specify thermally broken profiles — W50-TB or Secco OS2 75 — which place an insulating barrier inside the steel section to reduce heat transfer and condensation. For covered or interior glazing, the slimmer non-thermal W40 is often the right call.
Very large — multi-story glazing is routine. Individual panel sizes are governed by the chosen profile, glass thickness, and structural support, and beyond that limit we mull multiple fixed panels into a single seamless wall. We size and engineer every panel to your opening and local wind and load requirements.
