Finish Guide — Steel Doors & Windows
A finish you'll love
for years to come.
Every finish tells a different story. Here's how to choose one that looks beautiful today and continues to perform for decades.
Why Finish Matters
Steel is the structure.
The finish is what you live with.
Every steel frame begins with exceptional engineering. But it's the finish that determines how it will look, perform, and age over time. The right coating protects against corrosion, fading, and daily wear while preserving the design you chose for years to come.
Each one chosen to suit the profile system it's protecting, not left to chance.
Why your finish matters
- Corrosion resistance
- Color & consistency
- UV / weathering stability
- Surface texture & sheen
- Indoor vs. outdoor durability
- Long-term maintenance
Two Coating Processes
The right coating.
For the right steel.
Every profile receives the coating system best suited to its design and performance requirements. Your choice is the color — we've already chosen the finish that protects it best.
Tiger Powder Coat
An electrostatically applied dry powder, cured under heat into a hard, continuous finish. It's the standard coating across BF S20, Secco OS2 75, and Welser Steel — a durable, even finish available across our full standard color range plus any RAL match.
- Excellent hardness & scratch resistance
- Full standard color range + any RAL color
- No solvents — environmentally preferred process
PVDF Coating
A premium fluoropolymer coating engineered for exceptional color retention, gloss stability, and long-term performance in demanding exterior environments.
- Superior long-term color & gloss retention
- Engineered for demanding exterior exposure
- Factory process specific to Ottostumm profiles
By Profile System
Every profile.
One finish standard.
Each profile system is factory-matched with the coating engineered for its performance. Your only decision is the color.
Factory Standard
Powder coat is the factory finish for BF S20, Secco OS2 75, and Welser Steel.

Care & Maintenance
A little care goes a long way.
You won't need to touch up your frame every season — but a few small habits keep it looking like the day it arrived, for years.
Rinse regularly
A quick rinse with mild soap and water a few times a year is usually all it takes. If you live near the coast or in areas with heavy pollen or dust, clean a little more often.
Avoid harsh chemicals
Use mild soap and water only. Strong solvents, abrasive pads, or harsh cleaners can dull the finish over time.
Address scratches early
Deep scratches that expose bare steel should be touched up promptly to prevent localized corrosion. Touch-up paint matched to your finish is available if needed.
Check hardware seals
Inspect weatherstripping every year to help keep moisture out and protect the finish around the frame.
Coastal Homes
Salt air accelerates wear on any coating. We recommend more frequent rinsing and inspection for oceanfront and high-UV installations.
Finish Warranty
Our factory-applied finishes are backed by warranty against peeling, blistering, and abnormal fading under normal residential use.
Built to be lived with — not constantly maintained.
Frequently Asked
Finish, answered.
Yes. Any RAL color is available at an additional cost, in either Tiger Powder Coat or PVDF, on any profile system. Lead time on custom colors is confirmed at quote.
Both are durable, factory-cured finishes. Tiger Powder Coat is applied dry and cured under heat, used on BF S20, Secco OS2 75, and Welser Steel. PVDF is a fluoropolymer coating specified for all Ottostumm systems, chosen for its long-term color and gloss retention.
No. Each BlackFramed profile system is factory-matched with the coating engineered for its performance requirements. This ensures the best durability and long-term appearance, leaving you to focus on choosing the finish color that suits your project.
Both coatings are engineered to hold their color and integrity for the life of the frame under normal use, without fading or chalking prematurely. A simple care routine is all it takes to keep that promise.
Yes. Our signature finishes are available across every profile system regardless of coating process — the underlying process differs, the color range doesn't.
On bi-material or interior-facing configurations, the same coating process is used on both faces; only the color may differ if you specify one for the interior and another for the exterior.
